King Charles III and Queen Camilla are crowned at Westminster Abbey

All eyes were on Buckingham Palace as the world gets ready to witness the long-awaited coronation of King Charles III and his wife Camilla set to take place on Saturday 6th May 2023.

King Charles III and Camilla, the queen consort, were officially crowned king and queen during a coronation ceremony Saturday at Westminster Abbey, the first coronation there since his mother's, Queen Elizabeth II, back in 1953.

From Buckingham Palace, Charles and Camilla rode in a golden carriage pulled by six horses through Central London on their way to the coronation, surrounded by thousands of cheering fans.

The Household Cavalry Regiment made up the majority of the approximately 200 British soldiers who rode in the procession on horses. Around 1,000 additional sailors, soldiers, and Royal Air Force personnel were stationed on either side of the road leading to Westminster Abbey.

After being presented to the audience and repeatedly proclaimed as king, Charles swore a series of oaths that relate to his responsibilities in this new role.

Camilla was crowned as queen shortly after and sat alongside her husband in identical chairs as the choir began to sing.
